Out the Ox - Jack Stauber

Music Video

[Verse 1]

Kissing your hand, roll back your eye (Ah)

Now you’re outside (Oh), grass is so nice

Slip in the back, startle my friend (Aah!)

Has heart attack, he’s dead again!

[Chorus]

Hope you know I don’t blame you

We were jonesing for the ride, oh

Pop the gum that I gave you

Keep on dosing to the right, oh!

[Verse 2]

Work while I work, back in my head

You’re out the ox (Oh), I’m seeing red

Get me council, give me control

Kicking a bone, is it my own?

[Chorus]

Hope you know I don’t blame you

We were jonesing for the ride, oh

Pop the gum that I gave you

Keep on dozing to the right, oh!

[Verse 3]

Flipped on my head, you got me chewing on lead

I can be thoughtless as you are but going this way instead

Flipped on my head, she is the magical mattress

She's the oxymary Magdalene, oh so well read!

Oh no!

[Bridge]

Just say you’re coming home (Ooh ah)

And I’ll be home (Ooh ah), oh

And just say you’re coming home (Ooh ah)

And I’ll be home (Ooh ah)

And I’ll be home (Ooh ah)

I’ll be home (Ooh ah)

And I’ll be home (Ooh ah)

And you…

(hold his hands back)

(Well then, not a problem!)

[Verse 4]

Kissing your hand (Kissing your hand!)

Roll back your eye (Roll back your eye!)

Now you’re outside (Now you’re outside!)

Grass is so nice (Grass is so nice!)

Slip in the back (Slip in the back!)

Startle my friend (Startle my friend!)

Has heart attack (Has heart attack!)

He’s dead again! Oh

[Chorus]

Hope you know I don’t blame you

We were jonesing for the ride, oh

Pop the gum that I gave you

Keep on dosing to the right, oh!

Notes

Out the Ox is a well liked song in the community for its unusual nature with its upbeat intro and very psychedelic sounding chorus. The new segments added to the extended version would also later add to this, with the song being considered a good ending to the Hand EP. The music video is also very synonymous with the song's popularity with its characters featured, its colorful nature, and its strange imagery. This song is also well remembered and noted for having multiple intentional typos throughout the various social media platforms it was posted onto.

Trivia

  • The meaning of Out the Ox is currently unknown and there have been various interpretations of what the song could mean.
    • Arguably the most popular theory is that the song is simply about someone's, or possibly a couple's drug addiction and trying their best to settle it. This is seen in the first two verses and the chorus of the song, seemingly taking the perspective of the person on drugs. The imagery featured in the music video also seems to support this theory.
      • The music video during the chorus, the lyrics "keep on dosing" appear on screen, though the words dosing and dozing are mixed into each other, implying that both words can be interpreted for the song, further proving the drug theory.
  • As stated above, Out the Ox is very notable for having been misspelled on multiple social media platforms it was posted onto. However, most unusual was that the song featured a more fuller title on the Micropop release, being titled Out of the Box, rather than Out the Ox. The reason for all these changes is currently unknown, though there are various theories on the title changes.
    • A one theory states that the title changes are meant to connect with the possible drug theory mentioned earlier, with the different titles representing the perspective of the person on drugs, similar to the song lyrics. This could explain why the phrase out the ox would later appear in the song and this could also likely reveal the song's true title is Out of the Box.
    • Another theory states that Out of the Box was the original title for the song, but Jack originally misspelled the song as Out the Ox on one of the uploads featuring said title. However, he would make the titles a gag within the song jokingly as a result of the mistake. This theory is also supported with the music video and the Micropop album's close release dates.

  • Out the Ox is the youngest and latest known song from the Micropop album, with it coming from May 2019, about a month before the album's release.
  • Out the Ox is one four extended songs that Jack has made without a new instrumental or different opening added. The other extended songs to do this are Baby Hotline, Those Eggs Aren't Dippy and Keyman.
  • Out the Ox was the first video to not have the "made with left hand" note, first revealing his stunt injury and broken right hand was healed. He would later fully confirm it on the Patreon post of the extended version of Cupid.
  • Out the Ox, Al Dente, Tea Errors, and Cupid are the only extended songs where the title isn't sung in the original version but is later sung in the extended version.
  • Out the Ox is currently the last song on the Micropop album to get an extended version.
  • The thumbnail for Out the Ox on Facebook is a still of the "Kissing your hand" scene rather than the screaming friend.
  • The hi-hat cymbal heard in the song is noticeably more audible in the Micropop and extended version than it is in the original music video.
  • Although it is mainly agreed by majority of fans that the cover art and promo for Deploy / Those Eggs Aren't Dippy / Out the Ox is based off of Deploy for it being the first track, some fans also commonly speculate that the cover art and promo for the EP is also influenced by Out the Ox for the "kissing your hand" lyric.
